IPv6 Monostack»making IPv6 the happy path«
Hi! I'm Daniel (dxld) and
I want the internet community to
stop suffering the legacy internet protocol, IP version 4.
I'm excited to invite you to join our movement to put IPv4 in it's final resting place: a dark dank corner at the edge of our networks — out of sight and out of core.
tl;dr: Get Technical /How?.
Turn off IPv4 with FLOSS!
We want to make it easy for networks to unilaterally stop operating with legacy IP (IPv4) at their core. It's what ultimately holds back the IPv6 transition — our collective inability to drop legacy IP like the hot mess it is.
Sounds impossible? Heard it all before? Things have changed and things are in motion: IPv6-mostly, a new (2020–present) internet community effort to allow networks of any size to move towards being monostack without a painful flag day is poised to be supported by all mainstream OSes.
This presents us with an exciting opportunity to move the IPv6 needle by coming together and leveraging the power of collaboration between the FLOSS and internet operations communities right now!
Roadmap
| Make it possible | Upstream Linux SIIT (+NAT64) |
| Make it deployable | Integrate NAT64 and CLAT into Linux distros |
| Make it easy | Build a monostack focused router gizmo |
Current focus
We got funded by nlnet's NGI0 Core Fund to launch this project (with RFC 1925 compliant thrust levels) by submitting our Stateless IP/ICMP translation (SIIT) virtual device driver to the upstream Linux community.
However that's just a small piece of the puzzle. We need to bring together the community to make the larger Monostack vision a reality!

There's only so much a couple of crazy Unix Greybeards (or similar product) can fix and implement. Like solving big problems by blasting packets? We got one per cubic EtherType and pico-second. Get involved:
